Last Saturday was Iowa's Spring Game as we all know
and in attendance was Iowa Wide Receiver Recruit, Marcus Grant. Grant comes from Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts where he was an all-around great football player. Here are some of his stats:
-Receiving – 22 catches, 413 yards, 6 TDs
-Rushing – 25 carries, 349 yards, 4 TDs
-Defense – 13 Solo Tackles, 18 Assisted Tackles, 2 INTs
I was able to chat with Marcus recently and get his thoughts on the Iowa Spring Game, his spring workouts and much more.
What were your impressions of the spring game other than the cold?
Marcus: I thought the spring game was cool. I was really trying to pay attention to the offense and how it was ran. Obviously the weather was not great but I thought the team did a good job fighting through that. I really enjoyed watching Keenan Davis makes some plays too, that got me amped up. Overall it was just good to see everyone again, and watch some football.
What were your thoughts about Iowa City, the school and the fans?
Marcus: I love Iowa City. Everytime I go back I do not want to leave. The school is unreal, and so are the fans. Just the turn out at the spring game speaks for itself. That many people even though it was so cold out is mind blowing to me. I appreciate the fans so much, all I want to do is make plays for them.
How have your spring workouts been going so far?
Marcus: My workouts have been going well. I wake up 4 days a week at between 5-5:30 AM to do agility work and lift. I mostly follow the workout plan Coach Doyle sent me, but I throw my own stuff in there as well. I just started catching passes again because the weather is getting better. I usually run through all the routes in the plays that Iowa sent me and work on other things as well.
When will you officially be coming to Iowa City?
Marcus: I'll be in IC on June 5th, two days after I graduate.
What are your expectations for 2011?
Marcus: I want to win a lot games and contribute to the team in any way possible. I obviously would love to play right away. Definitely want to do well in the classroom too.
What jersey number are you getting?
Marcus: They told me I'm wearing 89. But Its not positive yet. Ideally I wouldn't want to wear that number but at the end of the day its not that serious.
What are you most excited about in being a Hawkeye?
Marcus: I'm excited about everything to be honest. I'm the first person from my town to go big time D1 in any sport so everyone in town is watching.
What game are you looking forward to the most?
Marcus: I'm looking forward to every game. I've always been taught to treat every opponent the same since I was little. Playing at Penn State should be cool though.
