Letter: Hopeful justice will prevail in 2018

The effort by right-wing media and politicians to disparage Robert Mueller, the Russian investigation, and the FBI is a disgusting spectacle. Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, and Republicans in the House of Representatives have made unproven accusations about the Russian investigation.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, who chairs the Senate Judiciary investigation, has wasted taxpayers time and money on trying to somehow implicate Hillary Clinton and the Democrats.
Republicans claim that since Democrats financed the infamous Steele dossier it is somehow suspect. Political candidates routinely do opposition research on their opponents. It's just that they usually don't come up with damaging information as did author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence agent. With or without the dossier, the FBI was going to investigate the Russian meddling.
Interestingly enough, a lot of the dossier has been proven true. Steele told Luke Harding, author of 'Collusion,” that he estimated the dossier was 70-90 percent correct, but was raw intelligence and required verification.
What bothers Republicans is that as lies are exposed and dossier allegations are authenticated, the Mueller investigation becomes an existential threat to the family kleptocracy known as the Trump administration.
If justice prevails, the American electorate will see this shameful behavior by Republicans as unworthy of the greatest democracy on earth and vote accordingly in 2018.
