Sanders plans one more campaign stop in Iowa

Oct. 31, 2016 5:48 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is likely to make a return appearance on the Iowa campaign trail before the Nov. 8 election.
Plans call for Sanders to make stops in 12 states from Maine to California, including Iowa, to discuss the Democratic agenda, but there's no word from Sanders on when or where he will be in Iowa.
'I am working as hard as I can to see that Donald Trump is defeated, that Hillary Clinton is elected president and that Democrats gain control of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate,” said Sanders, who lost the Iowa caucuses to Clinton 49.9 percent to 49.6 percent. 'The day after the election, I intend to do everything I can to see that the new president and Congress implement the Democratic platform, the most progressive party agenda of any major political party in the history of the United States.”
A Sanders spokesman said neither the date nor location for an Iowa visit has been determined. Sanders won't be looking to make his pitch to one specific group in Iowa.
'He doesn't think of it in terms of a target audience,” spokesman Michael Briggs said Monday. 'He's speaking to those people who don't get much attention.'
Sanders did particularly well with millennials during his presidential run 'because he talked about issues that are important to them,” Briggs said.
'But he's speaking to a much broader audience,” he added.
Many of the campaign appearances Sanders has made since the Democratic National Convention in July have been on college campuses 'because that's where the facilities are,” Briggs said.
