Yoga-focused athletic apparel retailer Lululemon Athletica will open its showroom store April 7 at the corner of N. Linn and E. Bloomington streets in Iowa City.
The Canadian company makes and sells high-end athletic apparel for yoga, running and working out. Showroom stores offer the company's core merchandise.
Lululemon showrooms do not have fixed hours and operate in space leased for six to 12 months to test the market before opening a permanent store. The retailer enjoyed success with pop-up stores at Iowa River Landing in Coralville during RAGBRAI in July 2015 and in early November in downtown Iowa City.
Lululemon, a publicly-traded company, was founded in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1998. The company, which already has a store in Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines, operates more than 350 stores in North America, Europe and Asia.
Clothing is displayed in the window of Lululemon, which recently opened a store at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California, June 19, 2011. The company is the hottest name in the women's active wear sector these days. Sunday mornings they move the clothing racks to the side and turn the store into a temporary yoga studio.
