Shaffer, Wanda Louise (Leigh)
Wanda Louise (Leigh) Shaffer, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Del Bear. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd “Bud” Shaffer of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Corrine Slagter of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michael (Marcia) Sutliff of Denver, Colo., Laurie Sutliff of New Castle, Colo., Brandon (Chelsea) Hess of Ely and Emily Slagter of Coralville; great-grandchildren, Austin Sutliff of Tucson, Ariz., Lauren Sutliff of Boulder, Colo., and Briar Hess and Slade Hess, both of Ely; sister, Maxine Schott of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Margaret Leigh of Lisbon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary (Graver) Leigh; sons, Larry Sutliff and Steven Sutliff; brother, Jack Leigh; and brother-in-law, Howard Schott.
Wanda was born April 17, 1921, on the family farm south of Lisbon, Iowa, daughter of Earl and Mary (Graver) Leigh. She attended a country school near Lisbon. Wanda then helped on her family farm. On June 10, 1950, she married Floyd “Bud” Shaffer in Princeton, Mo. The couple lived and raised their children in Lisbon. In 1960, they moved to Cedar Rapids and started a street ice cream vending business for 20 years, known as the JOLLY WAGON.
The most important thing was her family. She was a wonderful mother who deeply cared for her children and grandchildren. Wanda will be truly missed.
