What happened to our old friend the truth?

I have been feeling down lately, you see my old friend the truth is not doing well.
I have to admit the truth is a dear friend. To tell the truth I have been in love with truth as long as I can remember. I have always respected the truth. When I was young and their was a serious debate the truth always won out in the end.
Things have changed, in the old days when a well researched and written story was broadcasted by Walter Cronkite people believed it. Most every family received and read the local paper. If there was a spirited discussion on some contentious subject pulling out the local newspaper to back up the facts was all that was needed to settle the issue.
Today the truth means little to nothing to some people. They do not pay attention where their news come from or if is backed up by the mainstream media. News they do not like is 'fake news.” If a politician tells the same lie ten times they will tell you it is the truth because they trust the man.
I would like to tell you the truth is going be all right, but I have my doubts. You see the the truth is only going back to full strength if a lot more people start believing in the truth. I still believe in the truth. I hope and pray you do to.
