Bennett, Richard W.

Richard W. Bennett, 78, of 5400 Hunt Rd. near Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital after a sudden illness. Per Richard's request there will be no service. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Survivors include two sons, Scott (Jerri) and David (Janet), both of Cedar Rapids; and two brothers, Chuck (Connie) of Marion and Larry (Joy) of Tucson, Ariz. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan and Maia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois.

Richard was born July 1, 1931, in Lancaster, Wis., the son of Charles and Florence Freeman Bennett. He married Lois Sramek in June 1952 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2002. Richard worked at Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. in data processing and retired from there after many years of service. He proudly served in the Army.

Richard enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, skiing and golf, and especially the time he spent with his many friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
