Allen, Harriet Mae
Harriet Mae Allen, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Sunday, March 31, 2013, at MeadowView Memory Care Village following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Craig Peters. Burial: 2 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd. Friends may visit at the church after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Jane Allen of Fort Dodge.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; and son, Charles Richard Schomberg.
Harriet Mae Witter was born April 13, 1920, in Rudd, the daughter of Charles and Julia Simonson Witter. The former Mae Witter Schomberg married Samuel Newton Allen on Jan. 16, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. He died in 2012. Mae had been a proofreader for the Russell Guides Company and worked at Collins Radio until her retirement in 1954. She was a charter member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, the Rebecca Lodge and the United Methodist Women.
Mae enjoyed quilting through the Witwer Senior Center. Mae and Sam shared a love of dancing and first met at a square dance. She also had a deep passion for missions.
