Jerry J. Emerson, 80, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres, Fla.
He was born June 9, 1935, in Sioux Falls, S.D., son of Vernon and Ruth Emerson, and grew up in Cedar Rapids. He married Marcella Thurston on Aug. 31, 1993, in Cedar Rapids.
Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran. He was involved in various businesses over a 55-year career – he owned Empro Manufacturing and Emerson Real Estate, was a real estate broker and manufacturer's representative, and sold contract machine work.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Bradley of Cedar Rapids, Michael of Asheville, N.C., and James of Boise, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Amy of Cedar Rapids, Ashley of Muscatine and Colton of Asheville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey; and a brother, Doug.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mohawk Pavilion on the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids. All family and friends are invited to attend.
Jerry was an avid boater, spending countless weekends with friends and taking his kids camping at the Cedar River and Coralville Lake. Jerry taught dozens of kids and friends how to water ski. There was always a party on Jerry's boat.
