Killing of cougar a shameful act by many
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Do Iowans really want the beauty of the natural world and the magnificent species in it destroyed for the sake of human consumption and entertainment? Apparently so.
Shame on the Iowa legislators for not having a law that would have prohibited the killing of the cougar in Iowa County last week. Shame on the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for not having a policy of relocation of non-native species that wander into this state!
Shame on the hunter who took such pride in killing this animal, which was not behaving aggressively toward anyone or thing, and now plans on having the cat mounted.
Shooting this splendid animal was morally repugnant to me and a
horrible example to set for the children of this state.
