Kernels snap streak with 6-4 win over Cougars

The Cedar Rapids Kernels snapped a five game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Kane County Cougars at Elfstrom Stadium on Wednesday night. The Kernels scored four unearned runs in the top of the 9th inning off Kane County reliever Josh Lansford (1-2) capped by a two run single by Terrell Alliman.
Kernels starter Buddy Boshers allowed four runs on five hits and struck out five over 4 IP in a spot start as Carson Andrew provided three innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out two. Young-Il Jung (2-1) picked up the win and Johnny Hellweg worked around two walks and a hit in the bottom of the ninth for his 13th save.
It's just the sixth time this season that the Kernels have won when trailing after eight innings. With the win, the Kernels improve to 21-16 in the second half and 64-41 overall. Kane County falls to 22-16 and 54-53 overall.
Jeremy Cruz went 2-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored as Michael Wing and Justin Bass were both 1-4 with an RBI. Jon Karcich extended his hitting streak 17 games, going 1-4 with an RBI. Kane County starter Ian Krol allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six over 5 IP in a no-decision effort. Rashun Dixon was 2-3 with an RBI and Max Stassi hit a solo HR.
