Graduates, consider Midwest’s benefits

To the editor:
In reply to the news article about 'Brain Drain” in the May 18 Gazette, I would urge graduates to look at other factors besides salary when considering a move. If they are considering the West Coast, costs of housing, groceries, gasoline, insurance, medical care and other expenses are much higher. For example, an eye exam which costs $15 here costs $50 in Seattle for the same test. But the biggest challenge is the traffic which is horrendous everywhere on the West Coast. Even water is becoming worrisome. The governor of Washington has just issued strict water conservation rules.
Entertainment, especially sports events, are better, but very expensive. Even making friends may be more difficult. So before you move, consider your Midwest amenities which you take for granted. Money isn't everything.
