Illa Menge, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Illa is survived by her children, Cindy (Mark) Carpenter of Cedar Rapids, Ronda Menge-Kelley (Brian Kelley) of Des Moines, Carles (Doug Jr.) Farley of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Lori) Menge of Cedar Rapids, Anita (Lon) Richardson of Cedar Rapids and Ellie (Todd) Cornell of Marion; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Annie Conner of Greeley, Virgie Menge of Cascade and Boone Menge of Garber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Elsie (Hook) Welsh; husband, Marvin; daughter, Marla Batemen; brothers, Jess, Gilbert, Dennis, Cecil and Melvin Welsh; and sisters, Dorothy Crider, Mildred Ross and Edith Phillips.
Illa was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Clayton County, Iowa, daughter of Melvin and Elsie (Hook) Welsh. She married Marvin John Menge on Nov. 23, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Illa was a homemaker and mother and also worked as a bartender for Frank's Bar for 14 years. Family was most important to her. She enjoyed spending time with them, going out to eat, going to the casinos and thrift shopping. Illa will continue to live on through her generous donation with the Iowa Donor Network.
