Updegraff, Edwin Earl
Edwin Earl Updegraff, 99, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, died there Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion, by the Rev. Howard Chapman. Private inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Irma; a daughter, Barbara (Ray) Drew of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Brian (Marta) Drew and David (Christy) Drew; and three great-grandchildren, Henry, Caroline and Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond, who died as a child.
Edwin was born June 21, 1910, the son of Robert and Julia (Kerr) Updegraff, in Sigourney, Iowa. He married Irma L. Petersen on April 17, 1941, in Sigourney. Edwin worked as a broadcast engineer for WMT radio and television for 38 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion for over 50 years.
