Frances Mae Littrel was born May 6, 1925, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of William Henry and Hattie Mae (Morrison) Wilkerson. She graduated from North English High School in 1942. On May 28, 1943, Frances was united in marriage to Lester Lamont Littrel in Manchester, Tenn. Together they lived in the North English community and owned and operated the Dairy Creme for 12 years, and later Frances was head cook at the high school for 10 years. Frances was a member of the North English Christian Church and past member of the North English American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed cooking, cross stitch, word search puzzles and traveling to the Ozarks. Frances died Monday, May 16, 2016, at the English Valley Care Center, North English, at the age of 91 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty (Dan) Skokan of Newton; two grandchildren, Mike (Deanna) Skokan of Waukee and Bryan (Darcey) Skokan of Cherokee; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Nichole, Brittany, Jonathon and James; a great-great-granddaughter, Sophia; two brothers, Edward Wilkerson of Ottumwa and Robert "Butch" Wilkerson of North English; and a sister, Dolores "Dode" Wardenburg of Williamsburg.
She was preceded by her parents; husband; and five brothers, Leonard, William "Dean," Clarence "Squirt," Charles "Chod" and Norman "Tib" Wilkerson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor Luke Caster will officiate. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
