Lone Tree
Thomas M. Sorden, 66, of Brainerd, Minn., and formerly of Lone Tree, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec, 25, 2015, with his family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Merrill Sorden was born Oct. 12, 1949, in Iowa City, the son of Truman J. and Jean (Essley) Sorden. He was a graduate of Lone Tree High School, received his B.A. from Buena Vista College and was a graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. On May 29, 1970, he was united in marriage to Gretchen Harmeyer. Tom was a licensed funeral director and owned and operated Sorden Furniture and Funeral Service in Lone Tree and Riverside for many years.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge, KAABA Shrine, Iowa Funeral Directors Association, Lone Tree and Riverside Chamber of Commerce, Lone Tree Parks and Recreation Board, Lone Tree Economic Development and was a Lone Tree school board member. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, and loved to play board games and cards.
Survivors include his wife, Gretchen of Brainerd, Minn.; two children, Benjamin Sorden of Bloomington, Ind., and Mandy (Robert) Kubik of Oakdale, Minn., and their children, Madison and T.J. Kubik; and two brothers, Stephen (Bonnie) Sorden of Lafayette, Colo., and William (Angel) Sorden of Creston, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
