Don L. Pohlman, 80, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Don was born Dec. 29, 1935, on a farm near Johnson, Neb., to Roy and Esther Pohlman. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1953 and the University of Nebraska in 1957. He spent three years in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division and was honorably discharged in 1960, after which he began working for Hormel Foods Corp. in sales. He continued to work for Hormel for the remainder of his working life, eventually retiring in 1996 as corporate vice president.
In May 1965, he married the love of his life, Marilynn Pohlman (Towers).
In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, gun collecting, reading, watching Nebraska Cornhusker football and spending time with his family and pets.
He is survived by his wonderful wife of 50 years; son, David Pohlman (Susan); granddaughter, Julia; his brother, Bill Pohlman (Barbara); his two nephews and their families; along with brothers-in-law, Robert, Jerry and Jim; sister-in-law, Linda; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 9:30 a.m., with services following at 11 a.m. in the chapel. There will be a luncheon at Cedar Memorial Family Center following services.
Memorial donations may be made in Don's name to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Cedar Valley Humane Society.
