Damon Thomas Wolfe, 60, of Newhall, died at home on Thursday, July 7, 2016. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Bob Hurych. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Casual attire is encouraged. Burial with military honors: St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy of Newhall; mother, Kathleen of Keystone; daughters, Caitlin (Clifford) Reel and Cassandra (David) Lusk, both of Cedar Rapids; special daughter, Jessica (Lucas) Potter of Atkins; grandchildren, Nevaeh, Ireland and Orion Lusk and Lillian Duffy-Wolfe; special grandsons, Rylan Bicket and Chase Sorum; brothers-in-law, Greg Fratzke, John Fratzke, Ronnie Fratzke, Richard Fratzke and Tom Fratzke; and sister-in-law, Mary Fratzke.
Damon was born Sept. 4, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, the son of LeRoy and Kathleen (Blomgren) Wolfe. He was a graduate of Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids.
Damon served honorably for over 20 years in the U.S. Navy. Highlights of his service include teaching small arms weaponry to midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy and serving aboard several history-making ships, including the one that recovered the remains of the Challenger space shuttle and the ARS that towed minesweepers to the Persian Gulf.
After his Navy retirement, Damon was a truck driver for several area companies. He also was a lifetime member of the VFW.
He will be remembered as a genuinely kind and caring guy, who shared the gift of gab. Damon made friends with everyone and was generous to a fault. He had a great sense of humor, loved anything with trains, and all of his four-legged children.
The best day of his life was on Oct. 22, 1977, when he married his dear wife, Peggy.
Damon was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy; brother, David; son, Thomas; special son, Adam Robert; and infant son, Samuel Matthias.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
