Steven Earl Moritz, 67, of Manchester, formerly of Edgewood, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born on April 30, 1948, in Postville, the son of Alan and Jean (Brown) Moritz. As a young boy, he was raised in Colesburg. His dad, Alan, died when he was 5 years old. His mother married Neil Prentice, who raised him as his own. Steven graduated from Edgewood-Colesburg in 1966. He attended Ellsworth Junior College, Upper Iowa and then went to Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids majoring in auto body collision repair.
On Aug. 24, 1968, Steven was united in marriage to Linda Meyers, his high school sweetheart. After their marriage, they lived in Strawberry Point. In 1971, they moved to Edgewood, where he owned and operated Moritz Body Shop. Steve then operated Moritz 66 in Garber, worked at Welterlen Ford and was employed by Duffy's in Cedar Rapids until he retired in 2012. Steve and Linda moved to Manchester in July 2014.
Steven was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood. He enjoyed tinkering with cars. Steve loved going to Texas in the winter. He also enjoyed teaching others to dance and dancing with his wife, Linda.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda of Manchester; two children, Alan (Aley) Moritz of West Des Moines and Stacie (Darren) Besick of Center Point; five grandchildren, Riley "Rue" Francis, Derek "Bubba" Besick, Alex "Felix" Besick, Jackson "Jack" Moritz and Will "Willy Wonka" Moritz; one brother, Neil (Mary) Moritz of Humboldt; and a sister, Linda (Ted) Bush of Manchester.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Alan Moritz and Neil and Jean Prentice; and a granddaughter, Lydia Rose Moritz.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood. Also one hour before the service Friday at the church. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood with Pastor Mike Jackson officiating.
Steve chose to be an organ donor.
