ESTHER BERNICE VON AHSEN

Esther Bernice Von Ahsen, 93, died Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, near Newhall. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. A memorial fund has been established.
Esther was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Millersburg, to Edward and Augusta (Faas) Smith. She was united in marriage to Erwin H. Von Ahsen on July 18, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Esther farmed alongside Erwin for many years. Following their retirement from farming, she worked as a cook at Central Lutheran School for three years. Esther was a dedicated member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall.
She is survived by her two sons, Roger Von Ahsen and Kelyn (Lori) Von Ahsen, all of Newhall; and her daughter, Betty Jo (Roy) Peich of San Diego, Calif.; her two grandchildren, Eric Peich of Washington, D.C., and Nathan (Theresa) Von Ahsen of Parnell; her two great-grandchildren, Baylie and Harper Von Ahsen; and her sister, Helen Von Ahsen of Newhall.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin, in 1998; and her daughter, Carolyn.
