CEDAR RAPIDS - Buena Vista is the top seed for this weekend's Iowa Conference Baseball Tournament, which begins Thursday in Cedar Rapids.
The Beavers take a 33-7 record into the event, which is double elimination. They recently wrapped up their 16th IIAC regular-season championship.
The tournament kicks off Thursday at 1 p.m. with fourth-seeded Loras (17-21) playing fifth-seeded Simpson (20-20) at Daniels Park and third-seeded Central (25-14) taking on No. 6 Coe (15-22) at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The rest of the tournament is at Memorial Stadium. The Central-Coe winner plays second-seeded Wartburg (25-15) at 4 p.m., with BV drawing the Loras-Simpson winner at 7.
Friday's play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and runs all day and night. Saturday's action also begins at 10 a.m., with the championship game slated for 1 p.m. and again at 4 p.m., if necessary.
The tournament winner qualifies for NCAA Division III regional play next week.
