Frey, Vivian M. Beelner
Vivian M. Beelner Frey, 81, of Iowa City, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Windmill Manor Care Center, Coralville, of complications related to Alzheimers disease. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Vivian was born July 12, 1928, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Vivian Sullivan Rolfes. She grew up in Leeds, Iowa, and was a graduate of Sioux City High School. She was a graduate of the nursing program at Cherokee Community College. Vivian married Joseph Beelner on April 1, 1948, in Sioux City. He died in 1952. On Sept. 15, 1970, she married Joseph Frey. He died in 1984.
Vivian was employed as a licensed practical nurse at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 22 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar and rosary Society.
Vivian was dedicated and loyal, strong-willed and hard working. She loved to play cards, sew and do crafts, especially for her family and the church.
Vivian is survived by three sons, Randall (Delhia) Beelner of Cedar Rapids, and G. Pete (Marie) Beelner and Robert “Bob” (Carolyn) Beelner, all of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Jeano Elliott, John Beelner, Joe (Shannon) Beelner, Jacquie (Matt) Gorsh, Carrie (Jason) Nadziejko and Kimberlee (Kevin) Stiers; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis, Meika, Catelyn, Duncan, Colby and Quentin, Griffin, Alley and Claire; her sister, Vera Flaa of Iowa City; and her sister-in-law, Ceola Rolfes of Leeds.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Vincent Rolfes; and grandson-in-law, Jamie Elliott.
