Virgil L. Kasal, 84, of Chelsea, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at National Cemetery in Vining, with the Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine.

Virgil L. Kasal was born Jan. 31, 1932, to William and Amelia (Chesick) Kasal. Virgil was educated in the rural schools of Tama County. A Korean War veteran, he served in the Army from 1952 to 1954. He truly enjoyed going on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Virgil married Irene Kent on March 21, 1953, in California. He lived and farmed on the Kasal Century Farm since 1966, raising cattle and crops. Case tractors were his favorite. Virgil loved to tinker with old engines and equipment to make them run. He also loved animals, especially his cats and dogs. He always enjoyed a good joke.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Irene Kasal of Chelsea; a son, David Kasal of Chelsea; along with many more loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerald and Richard; and sister-in-law, Beverly.
