Hasley, Elsie
UPDATED ONLINE ONLY
Elsie Hasley, 70, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Jan. 19, 2011, in her home, surrounded by family after courageously battling cancer.
Elsie was born the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Verdeck) Christian on June 9, 1940. She was raised on a farm near Victor, Iowa and graduated from Hartwick High School in 1958.
Elsie retired from Universal Gym after many years of service. She then worked in the cafeteria at Nordstrom, where she was known for her homemade pies. Elsie enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen at the Witwer Senior Center. She loved fishing, cooking, reading, and most of all, her family.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Charles Hasley; and children, Kevin and Marsha Hasley.
She is survived by daughter, Mary (Lyle) Lemke, and son, Pete Hasley; two grandsons, Colt Lemke and Bryce Hasley; sisters, Rose (John) Hanzelka, Dolores White and Lyn Davis; brother, Bob (Denise) Christian; and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie will be greatly missed by her family and many friends for her kindness, generous heart and sense of humor. Elsie expressed that a traditional funeral wasn't what she wanted. Instead, we're looking forward to celebrating her life and honoring her memory with a fish fry this summer.
Our family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Hospice and Oncology Associates. Your kindness and support meant the world to us.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospice or Witwer Senior Center in Cedar Rapids in Elsie's name.
Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
