Kathleen L. "Katie" Yanausch, 94, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Atrium Village in
Hills. A time of celebrating the life of Katie will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established in Katie's memory.

Kathleen L. Gerlits was born March 29, 1920, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of George and Leone (Schindhelm) Gerlits. She attended St. Mary's High School in Iowa City, where she graduated in 1938. On Aug. 16, 1939, she married George Zeman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. He preceded her in death. She later married Dean Yanausch on Feb. 24, 1968, in Rock Island, Ill. For many years she worked in food service at the University of Iowa.
Her family includes her daughter, Shirley Barkalow of Iowa City; daughter-in-law, Lois Zeman of Hills; grandchildren, Lyndsie Price (Neven), Melissa Lesnet Hamer, Kristine Irwin (Tim), Jon Barkalow, Todd Zeman and Tim Zeman; 12 great-grandchildren; sister- in-law, Jean Gerlits of Solon; a niece and 10 nephews.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Francis Zeman; three brothers, Richard, Frances and Lawrence Gerlits; and her stepdaughter, Sandy and husband Larry Yanausch.
