Elaine Marie Baade, 94, passed away July 23, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids from natural causes. She was a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union. Burial: West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home in West Union.
Elaine was born Jan. 3, 1920, on a farm near Hawkeye, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Estelle (Connor) Gager. She formerly was from Monona, West Union, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. She married Durward "Jack" Baade in 1938 in Prairie Du Chien, Wis. He passed away in 1982.
Elaine was a faithful member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed the mission circle at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona and Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. She enjoyed dancing and wintering in the Rio Grande Valley in Mission, Texas.
Survivors include four children, Jacqueline Foote of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Roger) Thies of Cypress, Texas, Ronald (Marsha) Baade of Winetka, Ill., and Patricia Heupher of Ironwood, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Moritz of West Union.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Edna Krueger; a sister-in-law, Maude Gager Klima; a son-in-law, Gary Foote; a brother, Robert Gager; and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Krueger and Milo Moritz.
She enjoyed being a homemaker and her philosophy was the golden rule. Elaine will be remembered by her sense of humor and love of family and friends.
