Hargrave, Ruth E.
Ruth E. Hargrave, 80, a resident of MeadowView assisted living, died there Wednesday, March 18, 2010. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
Survivors include her children, Richard Hargrave of Sandusky, Ohio, Michael Hargrave of Oskaloosa, Leonard Hargrave and wife Barbara of Falls Church, Va., Roxanne Hargrave of Marion and Douglas Hargrave of Cedar Rapids; her siblings, Rose Mathieson of Fort Wayne, Ind., Andy Drexler of Roanoke, Va., and Diana Lindsay of Okoboji; her grandchildren, Dustin Hargrave and wife Mescha and Vincent Hargrave, all of Oskaloosa, Raelen Hargrave of Richmond, Va., and Mackenzie Hargrave of Marion; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Hargrave of Beacon, Iowa, Bethany Hargrave and Tanner Carver, both of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; three sisters, Darlene Thomas, Pauline Kirsch and Betty Drexler; and a brother, John Drexler.
Ruth was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Dickinson County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Bessie Drexler. She married Virgil R. Hargrave on May 4, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church in Spencer, Iowa. Ruth worked as a waitress for Hillcrest Country Club. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, Hillcrest Country Club and Cedar Rapids Bowling Hall of Fame. She loved golf, traveling and bowling, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a youth bowling instructor, was president of the Cedar Rapids Bowling Association for 15 years and bowled in 25 national bowling tournaments.
