Madeleine French Sauers
Madeleine French Sauers, 85, of Windmill Manor, Coralville, died April 21, 2011. Family graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City.
Madeleine was born June 3, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., to Jerauld and Madeleine (Ardisana) French. She graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School at Riverside, Ill., in 1943 and from Grinnell College in 1948, with a bachelor's degree in sociology and education.
For several years Madeleine was an elementary schoolteacher in Grinnell, Iowa. Following a move to Iowa City, she was employed for many years at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a medical social worker and then as a personnel specialist in nursing administration. She retired in 1984. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Madeleine is survived by a son, Robert John (Oliver Bowman) of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Mary of North Liberty; and a brother, James Gatherer (Rosemary) of Snellville, Ga. There are two granddaughters, Beth Sauers (Josh Tepfer) and their daughter, Olive, and son, Asher; and Katie Sauers (Pete Barker), all of Chicago.
Her husband, Robert Charles, and a son, George William, predeceased her.
