Luensman, Ronald
Ronald Luensman, 61, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Monticello, died Thursday evening, July 14, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
Surviving are two children, Jennifer (Kevin) Myers, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Jim (Sallie) Luensman, Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Logan Myers, Connor Luensman and Penelope Myers; two brothers, Jack (Judy), Peoria, Ariz., and Tom (Kathy), Monticello; and many nieces and nephews, Ursula Shulz, Angie Cirillo, Sheila Luensman, Chuck Luensman, Paula Chapman, Dominic, Adam Junior, Luke, Sara, Ryan, Jeff, Jason, Cassie and Tim Luensman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, James, Donald, Robert and Steven.
Ronald C. Luensman was born Feb. 10, 1950, in Farley, Iowa, the son of Earl and Maxine (Nordman) Luensman. He received his education at Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduating with the class of 1969. Ron then enlisted in the United States Army, serving 18 months in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart. Following his discharge from service Ron was employed at the Rock Island Railroad. In 1974, he went to work at Corn Sweeteners in Cedar Rapids. He also worked road construction as a flagger and at Amana Refrigeration.
Ron was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
