O'Donoghue, Michael F.
Michael F. O'Donoghue, 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010, at his home following complications of lung cancer.
Survivors include his daughter, Nicole and husband, Barry Carter of Cedar Rapids; and one grandson, Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; parents, Archibald and Helen O'Donoghue; and his sister, Janet Yancey.
Michael was born Dec. 5, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Archibald and Helen (Daugherty) O'Donoghue. On July 28, 1956, he married Margaret Ann Marshall in Sioux City. Ann passed away on May 28, 2009. Mike graduated high school from Shattuck School in Faribault, Minn. He attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1960, with a B.S.M.E. Degree.
Michael was employed by Collins Radio from 1960 to 1971. In 1972, he purchased Toman Flowers and Gifts which he owned and operated until 1978. The same year he purchased Atlas Fire Safety Co., which he operated until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity, Cedar Rapids Country Club, University Athletic Club in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and Cedar Rapids Garden Club. Michael enjoyed building his model railroad and sharing it with his family and friends.
Memorials may be sent to Shattuck School, Faribault, Minn. or Cedar Rapids Hospice of Mercy.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sioux City.
