Wagner, Ervine A.
Ervine A. Wagner, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, by Father Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors presented by American Legion Post 727. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m.
Ervine is survived by one son, John Wagner of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Karen (Roger) Sokolowski of Omaha, Neb., and Janis (Kenneth) Bornong of Waterloo; one sister, Mardelle (Tom) Duffy of Melvin, Ill.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ervine was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; brother, Everett Wagner; and sister, Marie Billerbeck.
Ervine was born July 9, 1918, in Kempton, Ill., the son of Edward and Agnes Monahan Wagner. He was married to Virginia Wilson on Oct. 14, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Ervine worked as a clerk with the Illinois Central Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of VFW Post 788, Moose Lodge, Eagles Club and St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Ervine loved his family and enjoyed playing quarter slot machines with his wife and family.
