Machacek, Karen Sue
Karen Sue Machacek, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center. Private Family Services will be held Thursday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West with Father Christopher Podhajsky officiating. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery.
Karen is survived by her parents, George and Betty Machacek; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Lori Machacek, all of Cedar Rapids.
She is also survived by her special canine companion, Sophie.
Karen was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Mount Mercy College with a degree in Business and Education. Karen had been employed by the Milwaukee Railroad and later taught at Hamilton Business College.
Karen was a member of the Elks Club, enjoyed traveling and loved animals. She always enjoyed spending time at the ZCBJ Park and following the 2008 flood, she spearheaded the restoration of the park pavilion at Wildwood Park (the former ZCBJ Park).
Contributions in Karen's memory may be given to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
