Oct. 31, 2013 8:14 am
Iowa junior guard Samantha Logic was named by media to the all-Big Ten preseason women's basketball team.
Logic, a Racine, Wis., native, was a third-team all-Big Ten selection last year. She set the Iowa record for single-season assists (217) and led the Big Ten in that category. She averaged 9.4 points a game had five double-doubles last year. Logic joined Maggie Lucas, Minnesota's Rachael Banham, Nebraska's Jordan Hooper and Purdue's Courtney Moses on the media team. Banham, Hooper, Lucas and Moses also were coaches' selections, along with Michigan State guard Klarissa Bell.
On the men's side, Michigan State was selected unanimously as the preseason team to beat. Michigan and Ohio State were tabbed second and third. Michigan State guard Gary Harris was named the preseason player of the year. Joining Harris on the first team was Michigan's Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III, Michigan State's Adreian Payne, Ohio State's Aaron Craft and Penn State's Tim Frazier.
Nebraska was picked as the preseason women's favorite, followed by Penn State and Michigan State by both media and coaches. Media only select the men's preseason awards.
