BERTHA RUTH ARMSTRONG

Bertha Ruth Armstrong, was born in Clayton, N.J., on Oct. 22, 1920. She went home to her Lord and Savior on Oct. 8, 2017, at The Bird House – Hospice Home of Johnson County, with her family by her side.
She married Dr. Mark Armstrong in 1945 and they had three children, John (Lucy), Barbara (Tim) Happel and Karen (David) Penick. She has lived in Iowa City since 1954.
Bertha graduated from Houghton College in New York and attended Columbia University. She loved her family.
In addition to her children, she had her grandchildren, Caroline (Bryan), Randy (Kerlynn), Daniel, Gretchen and Claire (Kam); and her eight great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed nature, music, her church and her family. She was a very kind and gentle soul and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mark; and sister, Hellen.
The family deeply appreciated her home caregivers, Kim "Vicki" and Cheyenne; Iowa City Hospice and the Bird House family for their grace and care in the last years of Bertha's life.
Private family services have been held through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
