Dirth is a problem solver and advocate

Generally, I haven't cared much for politics. It can seem like a game for people who won favor from some unnamed movers and shakers - unfamiliar with age-old sentiments about power being to, from, or for the people.

While completing my law degree at the University of Iowa some of my skepticism softened. The world and its problems are complex - that fact alone merits patience for our leaders. However, this same fact - the complexity of problems - sources my criticism for politics. Election focus on popularity over competence has left us with well-meaning laws that accomplish nothing. So often, these laws are written without an understanding of the legal system or the problems they are intended to solve.

During law school, I had the privilege of getting to know Eric Dirth. But I had never imagined him for politics because, as I told him once, he seems like a real person. He cares about family and community. He is a devout Catholic and a good friend. He never had the plastic smile and empty words I have always associated with politics.

I am thrilled that Eric is running for Iowa Senate District 37. He is everything that is so often lacking - honest, authentic, and hardworking. As a native, he is deeply committed to Iowa and hearing the people's voice. I voted for Eric because he is not a politician. He is a problem solver, an advocate, and an Iowan. On June 5, I hope you'll consider voting for him as well.
