Hirschfeld, Winifred May
Winifred May Hirschfeld
Born May 9, 1914,
in Milwaukee, Wis.
Departed Feb. 8, 2012,
in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
A beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Winifred May Hirschfeld passed away Feb. 8, 2012, at the Hiawatha Care Center after a short illness.
Days before residing at the Hiawatha Care Center our beloved Winnie enjoyed her days at Promise House, where she mixed and mingled with many friends who resided with her at the residence. One of her most favorite activities was to play cards and complete crossword puzzles with her best friend, Jackie.
Her husband, Alfred E. Hirschfeld, departed on Oct. 15, 2007, and there wasn't a day that went by when she didn't miss him.
After her husband's passing, she spent many years living independently at their home that she took such pride in.
Friends may call for visitation after 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Services, In honor of Winifred May Hirschfeld will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories at 11 a.m. promptly following the visitation. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Donald Hirschfeld (Debra); grandson, Brent Hirschfeld (Stephanye); daughter, Susan Meek (Donald); granddaughter, Kathryn Marquis (Peter); and great-grandson, Jack Marquis; son, Robert Hirschfeld (Margaret); grandson, Robert Hirschfeld (Terri); and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Nathan Hirschfeld.
Winnie was born May 9, 1914, in Milwaukee, Wis. She married Alfred Hirschfeld on Nov. 2, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wis. Later they had three children (Robert, Susan and Donald) and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to make their lifelong home.
Winnie was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with various charities. She enjoyed volunteering for the Woman's Home Missionary Society, Good Samaritans, St. Luke's Hospital and Bible study at Trinity Lutheran Church.
More then anything her family meant the most to Winnie. She devoted her life to the happiness of her husband, children and grandchildren.
To understand how truly special she was to everyone who came in contact with her, even children in the neighborhood would ring the doorbell, and the child would say to Alfred, “Can Winnie come out and play?”
She made the happiest of childhoods and happiest of memories for both her children and grandchildren and everyone who knew her.
Heaven has received an angel from this earth!
Your family knows that you will always be with us!
We love you!!!!
A memorial fund has been established.
