IOWA CITY - The Iowa City Council has chosen a current staffer to be the next city clerk.
The council chose Kellie Fruehling, an administrative secretary in the Clerk's Office, it announced Thursday through a news release. Since starting with the city in 2000, Fruehling served as the Community Police Review Board staff member, and had responsibilities in the City Clerk's Office like preparing council agendas and handling public records requests, according to the release.
'Kellie is an exceptional and experienced candidate. Her familiarity with Iowa City and background in the Clerk's Office will serve her well in her new role and we are excited to offer her this important position,” Mayor Jim Throgmorton said in the release.
If appointed, Fruehling will officially replace Christopher Guidry, who served for about one month in the position before leaving for another job in April. Guidry was hired to replace longtime clerk Marian Karr, who worked in the office for more than 30 years.
The City Council is expected to vote of Fruehling's appointment during its meeting on Tuesday, June 20. If the vote goes according to plan, she'll begin her new position on June 21.
Fruehling's salary will be $87,000, according to an email from city human resources administrator Karen Jennings.
