Founding Fathers would cringe over Grassley
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Reading Gary Young's July 16 letter (“Grassley meets test of Founding Fathers”) made me sick. I doubt if the Founding Fathers would approve of denying a block of American citizens their civil rights. Sen. Chuck Grassley doesn't mind.
Grassley didn't mind brokering arms deals for the sadistic dictator of Somalia, Mohammed Siad Barre. All Barre did was to exterminate a lot his fellow citizens. But hey, there's a little oil in Somalia, and the Russians had abandoned him. Wasn't that worth tweaking the Russian Bear's nose? Unfortunately, Somalia has not recovered to this day.
I can't believe anyone could say Grassley has a reputation for fiscal responsibility and government accountability. Is it responsible to fund two wars and huge tax cuts for the rich off the books? And how about his bogus prescription drug bill?
But the evil thing he is doing these days is to say “no” to every program that might help the little guy. It's way past time to send Charles Grassley back to the farm. He has been at the public trough since 1958.
