Haase, Donn A.
Donn A. Haase, 73, of Ely, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, of brain cancer at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. As per his wishes, there will only be a family service at Hrabak Funeral Home on Monday, July 1. Donn's remains will be cremated with no interment scheduled. Officiating at the funeral home will be Joe Kane, a chaplain at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Donn was born March 6, 1940, in Toledo, Iowa, to Milvoy and Gladys Haase. On Jan. 14, 1964, he was married to Marie VanDrew. The couple lived in Marengo, Iowa, for 38 years before moving to Ely in 2003.
Donn worked at Amana Refrigeration for 35 years until retiring. Donn was a hard worker both inside and outside of his home. He completely remodeled his home and took great pride in it and the yard where he had planted 28 trees and evergreens. In later years, he took up woodcarving (mostly weather vanes). He also made many items for his home and many other beautiful things.
Donn is survived by his wife, Marie; his two sons, Mark of Fort Dodge, and Brett of Ely; his granddaughter, Marissa of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Darla (Duane) Yount of Florida; and his brother, Dennis Haase of Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Donn was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Haase; and his father, Milvoy Haase.
The family would like to thank Hospice House of Mercy's staff and the Chaplain, Joe Kane, for all of the care and compassion they showed Marie and her family.
