Matthess, Michael M.
Michael M. Matthess, 62, of Stanwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at 10:30 p.m. at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, where funeral services will be on Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oxford, with military gravesite rites.
Michael was born Dec. 14, 1946, in Iowa City, to Maynard and Dorothy Cox Matthess. He was a graduate of the Tipton High School and served his country from 1965-1967 in the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver for 40 years and recently retired from Shephard Trucking in Stanwood.
Surviving are three daughters, Laura Matthess of Des Moines, Micki Matthess of Wilmington, N.C., and Melissa Perkins of Georgetown, Ind.; three sons, Brett (Christina) Halter of Iowa City, Steven (Tamika) Matthess of Charles City and Justin Sharpless-Matthess of Kellerton, Pa.; two sisters, Betty (Frank) Webb of Muscatine and Mary Matthess of Tipton; six brothers, Joseph (Irene) Matthess of Marengo, Barry Matthess of Tipton, Lonnie Matthess of Stanwood, Paul (Linda) Matthess of Marengo, Ronnie (Teralyn) Matthess of West Branch and Donnie Matthess and friend Mary of Cedar Rapids; and five grandchildren.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
