McClenathan, Alice L.
Alice L. McClenathan, 90, of Marion, formerly of Victor, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Bickford Cottage in Marion. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Victor United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Victor Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Victor, with the family present to greet friends from 5 until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be designated to the Victor United Methodist Church.
Alice Letha McClenathan was born the daughter of Ernest and Letha Cashman Eggert on the family farm near Ladora, Iowa. She attended Lincoln Township School and graduated from Victor High School in 1937. She continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College and taught at the Lincoln Township School No. 1 for 3½ years.
On Aug. 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold McClenathan at the family farm. To this union were born four children: Alan, Eugene, Beula and Eldon. Alice received her greatest pleasures from her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a longtime active member of the Victor United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. Alice was also involved with the United Methodist Women for several years.
Alice is survived by her children, Alan (Bette) McClenathan of Guernsey, Eugene (Beth) McClenathan of Johnstown, Colo., and Beula (Robert) Dvorak of Mount Vernon; daughter-in-law, Dotty Plowman of Toledo, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Brian Dvorak, Bradley Dvorak, Timothy McClenathan, Joshua McClenathan, Amy McClenathan, Sarah Kracht, Susan Harken, Lisa Oliveria, Nicole Mann, Dane McClenathan and Mykala McClenathan; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Gorsh of Marengo and Kathleen Eggert of Ocala, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 2000; son, Eldon in 1986; granddaughter, Carma in 1974; and her siblings, Leola Ranfeld, Elmer Eggert and Dean Eggert.
