Mueller, Maldean D.
Maldean D. Mueller, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, with family by her side following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in Wayne Zion Cemetery. Pastor Ellery Dykeman will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Maldean is survived by a son, Marlon (Nancy), West Des Moines; daughter, Mareda Pierce, Monticello; and three grandsons, Jacob and Andrew Mueller and Joshua Pierce.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; a grandson, David Michael Mueller; and a sister, Murva Dirks.
Maldean Clarice Dirks was born April 2, 1930, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Hattie Folkers Dirks. Maldean graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1948 from Monticello Community Schools. She then worked as a bookkeeper, assistant editor of the Anamosa Eureka and service representative for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Maldean Dirks married Dale Mueller on June 23, 1956, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. The couple farmed in the Grand Mound area until 1963 when they moved to a family farm in Wayne Township near Monticello.
Maldean was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. She served as a youth leader and on various committees. She was baptized April 27, 1930, and confirmed her faith on March 25, 1943.
