Janet Lynn (Pierce) Stockman, 69, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Lantern Park in Coralville.
Janet was born May 13, 1947, in Iowa City, and graduated from Iowa City High in 1965. She attended and graduated from Ellsworth Junior College in 1967, with an associate degree in fashion and design. After graduation she worked in Des Moines as a buyer for Younkers.
On June 21, 1974, Janet and William "Bill" Stockman were married at Bethany Baptist Church in Iowa City. The couple went on to farm in the Oxford area for over 40 years. They have one son, Christopher, who lives in Iowa City.
Survivors include her husband and son; mother-in-law, Marguerite Stockman of Amana; brother, Robert (Connie) Pierce of Iowa City; sister, Joan (Tim) Alberhasky of Des Moines; sisters-in-law, Carole Pierce of Iowa City, Jean (Robert) Ash of Roseville, Calif., Kathleen Zimmerman of Cambridge and Patty (Dwight) Sann of Clarion; brothers-in-law, Rick (Margaret) Stockman of Oxford and Randy (Deborah) Stockman of Goddard, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Helen (Spivey) Pierce; brother, Frank L. Pierce; and father-in-law, Merle Stockman.
Following a private family viewing, Janet was cremated at her request. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, where a funeral will begin at 5 p.m. A reception at the funeral home will immediately follow the service. Private family burial will be at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery near Oxford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Janet's memory to Reach for Your Potential, Iowa City Hospice or the Oxford First Responders.
