Graham, Bernard 'Bernie' L.
Bernard “Bernie” L. Graham, 95, of Marion, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jerry W. Doellinger. Burial: St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Atkins. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Loretta; sons, Stephen H. (Marilyn) of Frankfort, Ill., and Kenneth L. (Norma) of Holiday, Fla.; daughter, Beth (John) Madland of Marion; grandchildren, Beth Penn, Michelle (Justin) Lange, David (Kimberly) Graham, Patrick (Jessica) Graham, Anita Graham, Jeff Madland and Christopher Madland; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Lange, Camden Lange and Noah Penn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene; and sister, Alice Hindenach.
Bernard Leon was born Jan. 13, 1918, in Downers Grove, Ill., the son of Bert and Mabel (Sheridan) Graham. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1936. Bernie served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a ranger in the field artillery. On Nov. 16, 1949, Bernie married Loretta Gerhold at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. He worked for WR Grace (CRYOVAC) in the Production Control Department for 32 years, retiring in 1983.
Bernie was a charter member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he served on many committees. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family.
