Eugene William "Gene" Womochil Jr., 54, died at his residence in Mount Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, following sudden cardiac arrest. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell
Funeral Home in Vinton, with Pastor Lenny Power officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
Gene was born Oct. 17, 1959, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Eugene William and Ann Mareda Womochil Sr. He was a 1978 graduate of Washington High School in Vinton. He worked at Terra in Vinton following graduation and then went on to receive an A.A. degree in welding from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.
Gene was a respected agronomist, and he had been a district sales manager for Crow's Seed Corn Co. He was last employed by B & B Farm Store in Jesup.
Gene attended Brandon Church of Christ. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and gardening. His summers were spent boating and fishing on the river. He was an excellent cook and had a strong love for his family, friends and pets.
Gene is survived by his parents, Gene and Ann Womochil Sr. of Mount Auburn; one son, Braden (Brandy Bell) Womochil of Vinton; one daughter, Kaley Womochil of Vinton; two brothers, Ron Lee (Nycki Lynn) Mareda of Independence, Mo., and Jim Womochil of Vinton; two sisters, Connye (Rick) Frye of Van Horne and Debbie (Dave Wiebold) Brecht of Parnell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; aunts, Helen Cronbaugh and Betty Mareda; uncle, Larry Cronbaugh; and one cousin, Scott Cronbaugh.
A memorial fund has been established.
