WEST BRANCH – Three people were injured Friday when a semi truck collided with a motorcycle on eastbound Interstate 80 near West Branch.
The Iowa State Patrol said that Elibah Baht Israel Franklin of North Carolina was flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and two men were taken there by ambulance after the crash, which backed traffic up on the highway for about 3 hours.
Franklin, 27, was thrown from a Honda motorcycle, as was the motorcycle's driver, Bettendorf resident Thomas Scott Davis, 34, when it struck a semi truck traveling in the left hand lane. The impact sent the truck, driven by48-year-old Kenneth L. Simmons of Avoca , into the median where it overturned, according to the crash report.
Hospital representatives could not be reached Friday night to relay the extent of the victims' injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol was still investigating the incident.
