Arlene Volden
ARLENE VOLDEN
Westby, Wis.
Arlene Signe (Peterson) Volden, 85, of Viroqua, Wis., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 25, 2014, at Gundersen Luth-eran Hospital.
Born Sept. 2, 1928, to John and Mina (Iverson) Peterson, Arlene grew up in the Westby area. She was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church, confirmed at Portland Lutheran Church, and graduated from Westby High School.
Arlene married James Volden on June 7, 1947, at Westby Coon Prairie Church. Together they farmed in Vernon County until 1968, when Arlene began her 25-year employment with Vernon Manor as the laundry supervisor.
In retirement, Arlene and James could be found spending time with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Arlene's greatest enjoyment came from sending cards to family and friends for any and all occasions. Never one to forget a birthday or even the most minor accomplishment, Arlene always made those around her feel loved with a heartfelt card.
In addition, she kept busy by making baby quilts for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arlene's home was always known as a gathering place for family and friends. Not only did her visitors feel welcomed and always leave her house well-fed, but she had a special gift for making everyone feel like her favorite.
A devout Christian and member of Vang Lutheran Church, Arlene is survived by five sons and three daughters, Duane (Connie) of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Judy) of Onalaska, Wis., Ron (Janice) of Madison, Wis., Gary (Kathy) of Viroqua,Wis., Mark (Brenda) of Viroqua, Wis., Vickie Moore of Viroqua, Wis., Judy (Larry) Willger of Viroqua, Wis., and Diane (Ron) Christianson of La Crosse, Wis.
Survivors also include a son-in-law, Wayne Kelly of Waterville; three sisters, Margaret (James) Rach of Chaseburg, Wis., Doris (Frank) Rach of Chaseburg, Wis., and Betty (Curt) Wam of Beloit, Wis.; two brothers, Verlin (Jan) Ihle of Coon Valley, Wis., and Mike Peterson of Beloit, Wis.; 30 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Elaine Kelly; three sons-in-law, Daryl Iverson, Loren Christianson and Herb Moore; and two brothers, Arnold and Orvin Peterson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate. Burial will be at Vang Lutheran Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the church. A visitation will be Sunday from 1 until 4 p.m. at Vosseteig Funeral Home (708 S. Main, Highway 14 S.) in Westby and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
