Newman, Marion Adele 'Monie'
Marion Adele “Monie” Newman, 99 and a half, of the Mechanicsville Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Rockford, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, in Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Private family burial will be at a later date in Cedar Bluff Cemetery, Rockford, Ill. Arrangements by Morgan Funeral Choices Mount Vernon.
Surviving Aunt Monie are many nieces and nephews, including nieces, Becky (Chris) Corbett, Stanwood, and Marcia (Dan) Wagner, Allegen, Mich.; and nephews, Chip (Chris) Swaney, Belle Plaine, and Steve Swaney, Las Vegas, Nev.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Carrie and Lyle; two brothers, William and Lyle “Bud;” and sister, Jan Swaney.
Marion was born Jan. 23, 1912, in Rockford, Ill. She attended Rockford Women's College and was a piano teacher. Marion was a member of the Centennial United Methodist Church and the Mendelssohn Club at Rockford. She moved from Rockford, to Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1966, to live with her sister, Janet (Chuck) Swaney and their family.
