Wake up, Iowans! Republicans are bragging about their proposed new tax bill, but it is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and it will bite you in the future. If you live in Iowa and earn less than $75,000 a year, you will be paying more in taxes. You should be calling your senators, Chuck Grassley (202-224-3744) and Joni Ernst (202-224-3254), and telling them to vote no on the new tax bill.
This bill will raise taxes on the poor and middle class and will give rich people and big corporations billions of dollars of tax relief. It will raise the U.S. deficit by more than a trillion dollars. If you itemize, you will find you lost your deductions. Got Granny in a nursing home? This bill attacks health insurance and Medicaid. But if you are wealthy, you will make out like a bandit.
If you get a paycheck, your taxes are automatically deducted from it by the government, and if you are lucky, sometimes you get a refund. This is not true for the wealthy and big corporations. They tell the IRS what they will pay, and they end up in a tax bracket lower than yours. Big business and billionaires still complained, and this bill was constructed to give them even bigger breaks on taxes, and that loss of revenue will be paid by the lower and middle income taxpayers.
Call your representatives and tell them to stop taking orders from the Koch brothers and their ilk and vote no on the final tax bill.
