Hanna, Viola E.
Viola E. Hanna, 90, of Onslow, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 15, 2010, at her home.
A celebration of Viola's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Onslow First Presbyterian Church in Onslow, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa.
Viola Eileen Huston was born December 15, 1920, in rural Jones County, near Scotch Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Lucy (Dodge) Huston. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1938 and Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Viola taught school in rural Scotch Grove and Madison Center in earlier years. She married Ronald Hanna on May 31, 1944, at the United Methodist Church in Wyoming, Iowa. He died on November 28, 1989. Viola and her husband farmed northeast of Onslow.
She was a member of the Onslow First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Women's Guild and Church Session. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She was also a member of the Claytonian Club (a women's neighborhood group) and enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, playing cards and gardening, but her biggest fulfillment in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her four children, Roger (Beth) Hanna of West Des Moines, Kenneth Hanna & Daryl Hanna, both of Onslow, and Lois Biggs of Johnston; four grandchildren, Stacy Hanna, Will Hanna, and Tyler and Jeremy Biggs; one brother, Paul Huston of Clarence; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Huston of Wapello.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant daughter, two sisters, and two brothers.
Memorials are preferred.
